Hi all

I’m toying with driving to Estepona from the UK  this September, assuming of course that this is allowed by then and I that I’m allowed back without quarantine.

I will definitely be using the tunnel and driving down through France and want to use fast motorways as much as possible. Does anyone have advice on routes that would give an interesting couple (or three) stopovers.

Thanks in advance

Cliff

I don't know how practical this is for you, but we recently took the ferry from Ibiza to Denia, then drove all along the coast, through delightful towns such as Mojacar, Nerja and Malaga before arriving at our destination in Estepona. If you plan your trip, as well as superb seaside resorts, there are intriguing mountain villages to explore, depending on how much time you give yourselves.

Enjoy.

Hi Cliff

We drove the tunnel > Velez Malaga March last year We found the motorway from north east Spain (crossing near Bayonne) via Madrid & Granada to be interesting & would happily travel that route again.

Through France we took the western motorways, via Rouen, rather than Paris. Rouen can be a bottleneck, but better than Paris in my opinion. Road Tolls in  France add up. We used to enjoy driving the N roads in France & we spent half a day off motorway, but with the 50mph limits it was tedious

Travelling from Yorkshire we stopped near the tunnel in Kent, then Poitiers. The hotel in Poitiers was a mistake, hotel itself was fine but in the old town, with access via narrow one way streets, & sat nav telling us to go where we could not go. Do another circuit & repeat. Not great after a days driving. Old town itself was great.

Third night, we found a Hotel Rural, in a small village near Burgos, which was great, charmingly old, and inexpensive. Communicated by sign language.

Enjoy planning & driving your trip. Coincidentally, we plan (Covid permitting) to drive to CDS in September, via a week in the Dordogne
