Hi all,

We are expected to complete on our property in Duquesa on 2nd Sept.  We are a little annoyed as we made a payment from our Euro Starling account and the bank (Spanish end) charged us approx 125.50 euros.

To be honest, we visited two Spanish banks back in May and both advised that their charges were 40 euros per month, with is pretty ridiculous.

One of the ladies dealing with our POA has asked the utilities suppliers about us paying our direct debits using our Starling Euro account (Starling has stated we can do this) but apparently the suppliers won't accept an iban beginning with GB, it has to be ES.

Can anyone give any recommendations on Spanish banks ?

Also, we have been told that the council tax bill is paid between June and Sept, which is fine, but can you tell me the annual period.  In the UK it is 1st April to 31st March, what are the dates in Spain.

Much appreciated

Karen

The Spanish banks all make charges, you only need a Euro account, many here use N26, low charges and all bills can be paid with their IBAN number, you need a Spanish address and an NIE number that's all. https://n26.com/en-es

I have used for 2 years fantastic service,

Hello,

Thank you for responding.  The current vendor uses N26 but when I called them they said I had to live in Spain to qualify for their account.

From Sept 2nd I will have a Spanish address and my lawyer has my NIE number, so do you think I get this account ?

Many thanks

Karen

Hello again,

I have just been onto the webchat for N26 and it states that I would need to be a resident, so I don't think N26 is an option which is a shame.

But, I just wanted to say that my friend opened a Santander account in April (In Duquesa or Sabinillas) and she opened it with 50 euros and there are still 50 euros in the account.

She was able to speak with them today, and they advised her that she has a Santander One Account and currently there are zero fees, which could change in the future.

I will probably open an account with these temporarily and see what happens.

But thanks for your time.

Karen

N26 - although the website says you have to be resident, another poster on here says he contacted N26 customer service who said if you have a Spanish address, you can open an account whilst visiting Spain.

Yes it does state that, 'but I was able to open on before becoming resident with an NIE number and address in Spain', due to complications Brexit intra-trade on services technically you must live in the EU.

That's correct Andrew you have to say live Spain and have an address there, but you must have an NIE number. My App still works fine with a UK mobile number. N26 gave a great service and the App is fantastic.

Hi,

I have also been looking at N26 but this is no longer available to UK residents an alternative is wise online banking which used to be travelwise. You can also set up direct debits for your utilities.

Might be worth checking it out.
