Hi,
I am an Irish citizen moving to Spain in October. I have been quoted €500 for assistance in my application for residency. It looks like a fairly straightforward process? Should I attempt this myself? Any thoughts much appreciated.

Hi Joanne
I would not attempt this myself. Too much bureaucracy in Spain, rather let an expert handle it for you, more professional and they know all the pitfalls in these types of applications. See helpful website below.

You should be able to do it yourself as you are European. Just need the right forms to apply to Inmigration and all info is available in internet. Shouldn’t be €500 anyway.

That sounds like an outrageous amount to me!
At the very least you can, with a bit of effort and web site translation, figure out the process that is required and then when you are quoted such a high number you can ask them to justify it.
I did the switch from the old green card to the current TIE (which may be a little different for your situation but maybe not) by myself. It took a bit of effort but I figured it all out and saved myself the money. If the steps are more or less the same as my switch was then you can definitely do this yourself.

Hi
€500 is absolutely outrageous with your EU status. €200 the maximum you should pay. I would not deal with that person for anything at all if I were you.

Steps hardly the same as yours. Applying for residency to Inmigration first requires paperwork and the right one or you would get turned away. You already had that changing old card for a TIE was a breeze as already resident.

I did say that they might not be the same!! Whoa....settle down Izzy...just offering my thoughts. Don't need a swat around the head for it. This isn't Facebook.
Hi Joanne
We are also from Ireland, settled here last September. I would advise you do it yourself, we did. Yes once you have the correct forms and using Google translator you will get there. To be honest, if we can do it, it should be a breeze to you. It also helps you to integrate into Spanish and understand how things work here. But yea go for it, and ask advise from your local police station. I have found them very helpful and friendly. 😃
