Tim, you will pay more income tax in Spain. You will pay your usual from the UK and then you will need to submit a second income tax report to the Hacienda (tax office) in Spain if you spend more than 183 days in Spain which it sounds like you plan to. Expect to pay more! Also, please note that if you are a tax paying resident in Spain you must complete a Form 720 reporting any assets over 50k euro. Do not get caught non reporting these assets which could result in large fines. Check it out for yourself.
Residency will not be a problem but expect to need full comprehensive insurance. The only way I can see you would plug into the Health system in Spain is by being employed by a Spanish company or being self employed. I don't believe either is economically viable. Better to go private. (my opinion only and please confirm this with relevant authorities).
Other than that and a Spanish drivers license you should be good to go.
