Hello  we are thinking about renting a villa from December to February/March and wondered if anyone had any advice as to which is the best area anywhere in the Costa del Sol.  We are in our 60s but would still like to be in an area which doesn't close down at this time of year with some entertainment...maybe where we could meet other expats.

We are  thinking of taking a weeks holiday in June and stay in a hotel to visit various areas...so any help with locations would be really appreciated.

Many thanks

Jan

Have a look at Marina de Casares where we have our house. It is a super place, near Sabinillas. You would like it there

Thank you we definitely will...especially as my husband has a passion for boats!

Does this area 'close ' down at Christmas time?

Peurto Duquesa would be a better bet- Marina De Casares is not really a marina. It is on the sea though and doesn't close at Christmas

Well, certainly better than England! Often very pleasant, but it can be windy and rainy, but always warm out of the weather

Think about Estepona. But also consider that southern Spain in winter also has changeable weather. It can and often is lovely, sunny and warm but it can also be cold, windy and wet. And at night temperatures can be down around the zero mark so be prepared. It's not wall to wall sunshine 24/7. Don't get me wrong. It's still lovely and better weather than the UK but bring a lot more than shorts and tee shirts! :)

The Costa del Sol is so called (translates from Spanish as Coast of the Sun) because it gets the most number of hours of sunshine in Europe!

I would second Estepona because it is a good sized town or even Marbella, although it is one of the most expensive locations, because the Costa del Sol is quieter from November to Easter.

You should also arrange a couple of trips next winter. Flights, hotels or Air BnB and car hire can all be booked for a fraction of the Summer prices. Then you will see, first hand, what you will be getting.
