Hi Alex

We are staying in Comares for a month. I am deeply distressed by some little dogs in the campo. They are 3 dogs in a wire enclosure with some chickens. They are chained with no real shelter from the heat and their water is putrid green. This is inhumane. Please could someone help them. I dont speak Spanish so it is difficult for me. I have lots of pictures on my phone to support this.

Thank you Dawn

It is the same here near Frigiliana. I see dogs chained in their yard, amid piles of their waste, disgusting.

If you see overt cruelty then report this to the police. You are the only person who can do this as a denouncia must come from the person making a report  and not a third party. Take pictures to support you. This is down to you, its not a case of "Please could someone help them", you are the someone.

I know I am someone so are you. Once anyone knows about this. There is an opportunity for everyone to step up and help. I am trying my best. I am on holiday and I  don't speak Spanish.  I have contacted animal charities. Put on FB. Twitter. Local police shut. Co tacted my Airbnb host who lives in Comares.. I will try local police this morning.

I understand what you are saying and please don't misunderstand me but the police require the person who has seen the issue/cruelty/crime committed to make the report. Third parties cannot do it on somebody's behalf. Anyone else is hearsay.

I have been to Guardia Civil in Comares. It is closed. I have telephoned and reported problem.. That these little fellas need clean water and better shelter. They are going to help 👏 👏.. Not asking for them to be taken away.. Life ain't perfect but clean water to drink and shelter from heat is.

Try these people
https://axarquiaanimalrescue.com/

They can often get through to police directly, and are taken seriously by them. In my experience, once the police know they are usually very good. There are actually some very heavy penalties here for animal cruelty so, hopefully it'll be followed up.

Thank you. I did contact them and some others a few days ago. Let's hope the police go and take a look.

Dawn, you obviously have a big heart!  Unfortunately in Spain the treatment of animals is still abysmal and there is so little we can do.  I remember sleepless nights thinking of this poor dog in a small area with no water in the middle of summer close to where I live  I wrote to the Mayor, Guardia Civil, dog shelters & rescuers and Police.  Nothing was done.  Eventually the dog disappeared and I will never know what happened to it.  Many Spanish do not see animals the way we do.  If an English person reports it they ignore it.

In Spain its an arm of the Police called Seprona that deals with animal abuse but they really will not do much.  Also they are overwhelmed with calls so getting through even is a huge chore.  Then when you do you will more than likely have to speak Spanish.

The best way is through the Animal Party but this may be too much for you on holiday to deal with.  There have an online system whereby you can report the cruelty.  https://yodenuncio.pacma.es/

Its very sad these situations.  Heart wrenching in fact when you are an animal lover!

Although in fact there are animal cruelty laws in Spain the authorities ignore them.  I have done a huge amount of research on this topic until I couldn't take it any longer.

Thank you for your message. LIke you, I can't get these poor little dogs out my mind..I know animal abuse/neglect goes on all over the world, but when you actually see it, you feel so useless when you cannot do anything to ease their suffering. Just clean water and shade from the heat would be a good start. How can that be so hard for the local people/neighbours/Guardia Civil of Comares.. (ive tried them all) ... it won't get better till they see its their responsibility as locals to help eradicate cruelty thats taking place under their noses.

As the saying go's... All that is necessary for evil to exist is that good men do nothing.

That clearly is not you Kerri. You have done so much. Thank you for all you've done. The world needs more people like you. 🙏
