We are currently in the process of buying a holiday home in Coin,

I would like to no costs etc or people’s opinion on what works best. To rent each time? Buy car in Spain? Or buy a car in England to drive over?
What are the processes of these?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

If you finally decide to rent a car I recommend you with Europcar at this link: https://www.europcar.es/descuento-colectivos-tiekom

You have to include the discount code: PT0000 and you will have up to 20% discount and the best rates for long-term rentals.

Regards

Don't buy in the UK and take the car over to stay permanently as you have to convert to Spanish plates after six months and the cost of doing that is not insignificant.  Buying a car in Spain is an option but cars in Spain are also significantly more than buying in the UK, then you have running costs etc to consider. Personally, I would opt for doing a deal with a local rather than international car rental company and renting as required. Then you have no ongoing costs even when you aren't there and no real responsibility for the car other than filling it with fuel. That's what I have done. I get a really good discounted rate, book as required via Whatsapp as opposed to the company's website, no hidden extras, full insurance cover, airport (terminal) pick up and drop off and full support, if the car breaks down or gets a flat tyre or something you can just message them and they come out and change the car. End of, hassle free. Of course, other options may work better for others but this solution has worked really well for me for years. If you need a contact let me know.

I hope that helps.

We hire each time we go over. We use malagarcar.com the more you use them the bigger discount you get.  I like the fact that if I fly out myself with hubby and kids following they collect them from the airport so I need only get to their offices to collect them.

Sure, I'll PM you as I don't want to put somebody's phone number on a public forum.
