Renting a car in UK

I can't see why would be a problem, pre-book and check with customer services .

Sorry to say that most car hire companies insist on a credit card in the driver's name but will not accept a debit card. 

Oh no!  Do you know how much cash (euros) I can take into UK?  I tried a Spanish credit card once and it cost a fortune in fees each month, so I cancelled it.

I use Auto Europe for all my car hire in Europe & USA.

Their prices are excellent but they also have good customer service. You could email or phone them and explain the situation. Perhaps they can suggest a solution.

Hiring a car in UK with Spanish licence is fine, I have done it twice recently. A spanish credit card would also be accepted but not a debit card. Why not get a credit card? My bank card is combined credit and debit. When I withdraw money from an ATM it acts like a debit card. If I pay for anything with it, t acts like a credit card. My credit balance is automatically cleared every month from the current account.

Thanks Martin.  I did have a credit card but the charges were astronomical!  I am with Cajasur bank, I just have a debit card and don't pay any fees.  I can't remember the charges involved for my credit card.

Your info really helped.  I'll enquire with our bank manager.  If I don't get a credit card I'll just take cash.  I hope I can take 1.000€ but I'll Google that to find out.

My card works the same as Martin explained (Credit/Debit as appropriate).  I am with N26 and use it for all my DD - thanks to David from this Forum.  It costs me nothing.  I got out of Sabadell.  Good luck.
