Switching your UK Drivers License for Spanish

Have just been thru same thing with our British car, in the end we not to a very good lawyer in torrox where we live, as it was beyond us , Sooo com placated, and we are now at the last stage , couldn’t have done it ourselves. Ok cost us a bit , but for us really worth it, and got a really good quote from abbeygate for insurance, you can beat em down!!

More important have you got a uk registered car? This needs changing plates, lights mot etc before brexit, and residency. As far as we know you don’t need to change your license to Spanish, we have done everything thru a lawyer, and he hasn’t mentioned this jane

Sorry if I wasn't clear.  I have a Spanish car.  I have been here in Spain for 1 year using my UK drivers license.  We can use that for 2 years until we need to switch to a Spanish Drivers license.  But with a No Deal Brexit looming the pressure is on to get a Spanish drivers license.  So my question isn't about the car but only the license to drive.  Thanks.  Kerri

You could try Gestoria Angela Barrera in Calle Real, Estepona. They speak English. They specialise in legal processes to do with cars and driving. They will handle the change from UK licence to Spanish. Take a photograph of yourself which is the same size as the photo on your UK licence, slightly smaller than the passport size photo. Go up Calle Santa Ana, opposite the car park on the paseo, and turn left into Calle Real. Look up above the shops to see her sign. Would help if you make a prior appointment. 952 79 47 69. I think you need to change your UK licence if you have lived here more than six months.

I agree Abbeygate. They are on the roundabout next to La Casona Restaurant on the A7 between Sabinillas and Estepona.

Actually we found a cheaper quote than abbeygate, she talked to her underwriters 3times (supposedly!) and we got the price and excess right down, miles cheaper than us .Linea directs.com

Thanks for the info Mike.  I will enquire what they will charge to compare for future.  I may have gotten lucky in the meantime with some new friends who have offered to help me.  When I get it done I will post the steps so others are aware.

I also use Linea Direct and found them very good to work with when I was hit by some idiot in the Carrefour parking lot.  He tried to escape but I got his license number and Linea Direct are going to pay for the fix without charge or penalty to me.

Hi you can get at uk post office on the same day for 5.00£ an international license that will allow you to drive in eu I will post more info about but if you can join on Facebook ukcen group where you can access plenty if information and sort problems without spending money....
