We are moving to Casares in 2020 and wonder if it is possible to take our English cars with us or do we need to buy cars out there?

Yes it is possible to bring your own car and change to Spanish plates.

Not easy .I bought a new cheap car. Best decision ever.

Why not easy? Was the car on finance?

Hi, I imported my English car into Spain and happy to inform you  that if you make the decision to come and live in Spain and bring your cars with you you are obliged by law to register them on Spanish plates after 6 months.

The cost will depend on the value of the car at this point. I would advise you to contact the British consulate in Spain. They may be able to give you the exact details of the cost. You would also have to change the headlights as you drive on the right side of the road. If your cars are fairly new and in good condition this could be very very expensive !!.I paid over 600 euros for an old car with a market value of 1200 euros,

It would be much cheaper to buy a car here in Spain (second hand cars are more expensive but there are many opportunities of Brits wanting to sell their cars because they are returning to the UK and there are many second hand cars sale points) Also cars over 3  years old need to pass a local MOT test before you can apply for number plates.

I hope this was useful. Marie

I have a 09 seater mercedes vito. I  t work with it at airports in london and wanted to take it with me. I was not aware of the headlight rule. You need to be empadronada to buy?
