Help with 90/180 days regulation

Hi.  My understanding is that you do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days in a 180 day period, but for stays of more than 90 days will require a visa.  So in a 180 day period you can stay for up to 90 days, or split the 90 “allowance” across multiple trips over the six month period.  This does mean a maximum of 180 days per annum in any of the Schengen countries including Spain, so you could do two trips of 90 days in a year.  Hope this helps

The 180 day period is a rolling one, you cannot pick your own start and end dates. You would exceed the 180 day limit for the dates indicated as the 180 day period starting in September and ending at the end of February you will have stayed around 120 days which exceeds the 90 day limit.

The 180 day period is not fixed it's floating.

This means you need to look back 180 days from and including the day you are going to leave Spain, making sure you are not spending more than 90 days within that period.

you can only stay for 90 days at a time and you cannot return for another 90 days. Once you 90 days out of Europe is complete, you can then comeback to Spain for another 90 days.

I wish it was that simple, take the example of someone who stays in October and November 60 days and returns to the UK, they return to Spain for February, go back to the UK for March and return for April and May. This is OK as for any 6 month period that you look at (either October - March or November to April or December to May) they have not exceeded the 90 day limit. There are a couple of websites that do the calculations for you if you enter the dates that are very useful. I did read that the Spanish authorities were looking at a simple visa system for UK tourists that wanted to stay for longer particularly for those that owned property in Spain.
