My wife and I are looking to retire here in Spain but do we sell up in the UK and buy here in Spain or should we continue to rent out our property in the UK and use the rental income to rent here? We are thinking of the tax consequences when I pass away re inheritance taxes etc. should I consult a good English speaking lawyer and if so any recommendations would be welcome. Thank you
Hi, well travel is tough these times so I would definitely rent a pretty new place to settle in and see how things work out. 1K euro a month seems to rent a new apartment worth 300K and you don't have to pay property taxes, purchase and lawyer costs never mind repairs and running costs(like community fees and IBNR). You're not tied for ever renting, so enjoy it the Costa de Sol is lovely.
