Gday I am Mark

I live in Australia and will be retiring about this time next year.  I have been researching places throughout Europe to live; basically so I can

access cheap travel and explore Europe.  I have narrowed it down to somewhere in Andalucía and at the moment I am favouring the Competa area.  It basically ticks most of my boxes in terms of whether, wine, food, walks and it is reasonably close to major facilities in Malaga.   In the    upcoming months I will be developing a good knowledge of the housing markets with a view to purchasing around April 2020.  I will also use this site to explore and research the many questions I need answered.

Jan thanks heaps for setting up this Forum.

Not for me, miles up , I’m sure a nice little community, but long way from the coast, somewhere further down but in the country, v. Cut off up there, but only my opinion!!

We are not cut off at all up here in Competa, we have a lovely village and have access to everything.

OK we only have 3 buses a day (more in the Summer months)

I´m just asking... but why Cómpeta?

Is a very beautiful village, but it is a little bit far from the airport (1h aprox) if you want to plan to explore Europe.

Hi there

I have been to Competa for holidays and it is a beautiful place and although some people feel that it is too far from the airport and the sea, I disagree.  For an Australian you will be used to things not being on your doorstep as you live in such a big country and having a drive and keeping off the motorways you will find the most beautiful, quaint villages.  Just don't buy a huge car as you might be scraping it, some of the streets are very narrow.

I am moving from England to a small village in the Malaga region very soon, the sale is going through at the moment and am scared and excited at the same time.  Everyone is saying that you must learn the language, so you have the time to do it now, start now if you haven't already.

I know Australia a little as my Son lives there, in Brisbane.  It is a beautiful country and again when travelling we keep off the motorways and take the long road to wherever we are going.  We took three days to get from Coffs Harbour to Sydney and saw some lovely sights and met some lovely people, everyone was friendly.

Anyway, good luck with the house hunting.

C x

Hi I am hoping to move into the competa area. I am hoping to open a bnb. I am wondering does the competa arra have good tourism where I can earn a living. Or is there already an influx of rural tourism where the properties spend alot of time empty.

Would love other people's point of view on rural tourism in competa and the neighbouring villages.

Thanks, every comment counts
