Hello can any body tell me if its true that to move to Spain you have to have £30,000 a year coming in to your bank my wife and I would love to move to Spain but feel we are a bit light when it comes to that sort of money

Hi

My wife and I are set to move in April,

What a nightmare since Brexit!

The amount is correct, its actually a bit more, but it does not have to be income based as long as you can show that amount in your bank account, we will be going on a none lucrative visa so we are not allowed to work for the first 12 months so have to show we can support ourselves for year 1, we will have a regular income from UK pensions (not state) , then year 2 is another issue you can apply for a relaxation on your visa so you would be able to work, but you have to show twice the amount to be able to support yourself for 2 years ( unless you get employment )

That's before you start on the rest of the paperwork and hoops that need jumping through..

We will be down to the wire and have been at this since December, we haven't yet got to the point we can apply for an appointment at the Spanish consulate!!

We are buying and planning living in Benalmadena all year round, so it may be different if you are planning a few months at a time?

Its frustrating and expensive but I know it will be worth it..

Follow your dream and live your best life, we have seen this past year how short it can be..

Good luck

There is always a surprising amount of information on the gov.uk website about moving to Spain.  And the Citizens Advice Bureau.  This question has been asked many times.  https://www.citizensadvice.org.es/

I have also seen it written that the amount they require just needs to be available to you and not as a recurring annual income which would be insane anyway.

If you wish to become a resident make sure you are aware of the Modela 720.

Good luck!

Hello.  Know how you feel there is so much paperwork. I am finding it a bit of a chore at the moment. I am looking to retire to Spain sometime in 2021.  Either somewhere in Benalmadena or Mijas.  I looked on the "PLACE IN THE SUN" website and checked there webinar and you can find out quite a bit of information there.

I live in the West Midlands but have got to travel to Manchester in person for my visa.   Don't think anything is that clear at the moment.  Need some clarity.  Early days yet.

Good luck

Denise

We are the same, we live in cardiff and also have to go to Manchester for our visa..

We were picked for Place in the Sun , we didn't find the house we are in process of purchasing but it was an interesting week and we learnt a lot. We actually instructed the solicitors we are using from one of their webinars before we applied to place in the Sun. Its a great source of information but then so is this site..

Good luck to anyone making the move, we will get there ..
