Good Afternoon

Our community in a large block of neighbours have installed a basic wifi connection and we are 8 floors up from the server . However, to stream the TV on any mode, TV , iPad, etc it buffers and we lose connection. Telefónica would install a phone line free but charge €29 per month for 6 months then 38€ each month for 300 megs for connection. We do not live here and wondered if there is any other method we could use ? We are getting by on what we have with this ongoing problem. Many thanks Jane

There should be 'boosters' if you are far away from the main modem/router, you should check this with the community, I doubt would cover 8 floors without boosters If they have a good high speed connection will only need some boosters in strategic places. Which could be in the corridors or other apartments. The booster/extenders can be less than 20 Euros.  https://www.amazon.es/TP-Link-N300-TL-WA850RE-Repetidor-extensor/dp/B00A0VCJPI/ref=sr_1_9?__mk_es_ES=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&crid=2ZS0H3TEILA1Z&keywords=why+extender&qid=1649086982&sprefix=whi+extenders%2Caps%2C131&sr=8-9&tag=cstareg0f-21

Also worth checking in your apartment if you have a 'hot spot' where you could place one, just down load a 'speed check' app to your phone,.25 Mbps, is the absolute minimum you need for TV ideally 60 Mbps or more. 'You can use your phone to find where in the block the speed is high'. A few booster extenders should solve most problems for all, then you don't need the expense of another feed. If you don't live there a drag to pay for an individual feed. If you check and find there is a good signal, it would slow down if lots of people watching HD TV at the same time, in which case they might need a faster connection, Olive net do a cheap 100 Mbps connection  https://olivenet.es/en/

Hope this helps.

Good Morning David

Thank you for all that information. We spoke about this issue back in November and  bought leads to add another HDMI plug, etc to the TV we have ,which isn’t a smart TV . However, with a hotspot on the mobile we watched Netflix last night on it . As you say it may be different when there are more people here. There are boosters in the corridors . So your advice I think will be the only solution , to perhaps pay monthly although we don’t live here.

Thanks Jane

If you found a hotspot for the phone, you could also place a booster near one. (You don't need a smart TV can use a computer or Firestick into the TV HDMI socket, with a VPN app to watch UK TV)

Hi Jane, we have a similar situation in our block so I’ve been using Bena Wifi for the last few years. Vasco, the owner, comes and installs a small receiver and connects it to a router and I get over 20th so. Good service and different packages to suit your needs. Great for surfing the net, UK TV etc.

I had a look at that wireless option, interesting, but the speed is very low.  http://benawifi.com/service-plans/

I’m on the “home” package and it’s fast enough for me for general use and streaming. It’s also a very reasonable price. I guess it depends on what you need to use it for.

Good Morning Arry

That seems a perfect option for us , as we come and go and don’t live here. We would be paying for a fixed line for most of the year when we are not here. When you say the installer connects it to a router , would that be a new router for the actual apartment? If so all we have to do is calculate the package we need . It wouldn’t need to be super fast . Just fast enough to stream the TV and use a couple of mobiles for surfing the net .

Many thanks Jane

Good Morning David

Yes checking the speeds of this like you have said they are not as fast as a fixed line . I suppose we have to check what we are getting now and compare whether this option will give us sufficient to cover what we need it for .

Many thanks Jane

Yes it’s a tp_link router in your apartment, password protected for your use only. Just like normal broadband really.
