Sorry I didn’t make it clear that we use our laptops without a VPN Aor fire stick just with the available wifi in the block . So we wonder whether a Smart TV instead of our older TV would be the answer ?

thanks Jane

The smart TV could well have the very same problem as your Firestick, have you done a speed check? (I'm getting over 150 meg a long way from router) https://www.speedtest.net/  Place the laptop or your phone near the TV/Firestick and check with a speed test.

Thank you very much for that we have done a speed check . We get 5.99 mbps download and 116.6 mbs upload and 23 ms ping . We have checked the speed on the laptop , it wouldn’t connect , holding it near to the fire stick . Would you say this is lacking for streaming ? We are a long way from the router, but we have a booster on the landing opposite our front door because the neighbours have complained , but it is a block of 9 floors and we are on the 8th ! We don’t want to invest in a smart TV if we will have the same issue ! What would your opinion be ?

Many thanks for your time , much appreciated Jane

I've found that the further away from your router you have your firestick,  the internet connection gets lost , we tried wiring ours with ethernet cable,  but that didn't work ( although in theory it should have worked) I bought a internet booster plug and placed it between the router a...

...nd our bedroom,  seems ok , but for best results you need to be nearest to the router,

Thank you for that information . It seems that it is our internet strength . We cannot use a booster as the router is in the community office and there are boosters on our floor . It is a large community . At least we haven’t bought another TV yet !

The fact it works fine on the PC/Laptop indicates the processor Fire Stick not up to the job. (I don't think the TV just needs a good feed) Does the laptop have HDMI out?  (I have a mini mac driving my TV with VPN)

Regards only one HDMI socket, just buy something like this from Amazon  ...

Thank you for your time to help .We are going to try to work out how to use the VPN express on our laptop , to see if it works any better . Just tried it,it won’t let us link to it because it may be insecure ?!?

It could be that , the problems stem from our internet connection in our appartment.

we will see , very frustrating!

You really need a minimum of something like 25 Mbps "5.99 mbps" (But did you mean 599?) that would not be enough, however the download should be greater than the upload, you said 116 mbps up?   Below an up to date link on speeds. If you have a booster to relay, with your phone try and find strongest signal in apartment then plug in there.

Hi again , My husband and I are going to read the helpful link you have sent us .

Would it work putting a booster in the apartment , if there is a booster on the landing outside and the server is located many floors away ?

No the upload is 116.6 and download is 5.99 as my husband found on the test link that you sent us , last night .This was on his laptop . He wasn’t able to do it next to the fire stick on TV. However on his mobile download is 87.87 this morning ?? It must drop due to use by others ?

what do you think?

Let’s see after reading the advice !?!

Many thanks for your time with this problem , Tecnology is great but sometimes so complicated to put right .Jane

If the download only 5.99 then big problem, the high upload indicates you have enough signal, I suspect a problem with the distribution in the block, you will need to complain.

Some information link below, however, the router and booster is not yours, I think little you can do, sounds like the feed to the apartments, for TV you are going to need at least 25 Mbps.

"Have you also run a test with your phone with speed test, just to double check the same result?

Summing up this Thread, once you have found a 'hot spot' which works with internet TV on your phone, you can buy a HDMI extension lead and plug the Firestick into the lead 'away from the TV at the Hot Spot'. The reception from the Wi FI  at the actual Firestick not the TV. - That can give an advantage over a Smart TV, as the signal is only picked up where the TV is located.  Good luck.
