Leaving Spanish home empty for a month or two - security

We are hoping to downsize in UK over next couple of years and buy a smallish traditional old village house in Competa so we can move between there and family commitments here in UK. I've been reading about more incidents of squatters and break-ins in rural areas of Spain and would really appreciate anyone's comments on whether this is becoming an issue at all in the Competa area. We hope that we can make friends and contacts who we can arrange to look after our Spanish house when we return to the UK. Again, any thoughts would be hugely appreciated. Thanks Val
