Hi All

Does anyone have the definitive answer to this? Despite reading a lot about the non lucrative visa requirements, I haven't been able to find an answer.

On assessing financial means, does the application form or do the consulate officers ask you about loans, mortgages or credit card balances?

Cheers again

Ian

I was not asked about any loans. Credit card funding availability can be used for additional proof of funds to live but I did not need that. They are not assessing your overall credit worthiness, just proof that with your passive income (Pensions, investment income etc) and bank balances combined you have the set minimum to support yourself for year one along with other things like health, criminal status etc. Your best bet is to contact someone like Chris at Upsticks.es he will give you a free 30 min telephone conversation and you can get all of the answers. I then used him for the whole process and his support was invaluable, no messing about he will tell you as it is, from your question I would think that his support will be money well spent.

Hi

I am also applying for a NLV at the moment.  I have been told to provide proof of funds from non-earning sources and last 3 months bank account statements.  The Spanish Translation Service in London are carrying out my translations of documents required by the Consulate and were very helpful about documentation.  Where I am struggling is with health insurance with quotes in excess of 10,000 euros p.a. despite the fact I have no medical conditions....if anyone can recommend a health insurer I would be grateful

A difficult question, how old are you? If over 76 you will find insurance difficult, not impossible just expensive. We went with Sanitas in the end. It is very important that you pay for a year up front and that the policy has no co-payments. We call them excess in the UK. There can be no situation where you are a burden on the Spanish state. I used an English speaking broker. [email protected]

Very helpful and understands the certificate you need.

Do remember that you have a timing issue on all this as documents run out of time after 3 months, criminal record, medical certificate etc. Don't forget that you will need some documents apostled as well.

Thanks for this...I believe that I have solved the problem...unfortunately I had a disastrous experience with Sanitas..I found their customer service pretty appalling...all they wanted was the money from my bank without any explanation of the cover provided, etc...shall not be using them
