Hi Guys,

If my UK employer agrees for me to relocate to Spain, I assume it will be ok for me to keep my UK Job (working from home - remotely) and become a Spanish resident? I am an Irish national so Brexit will not apply. I will have a full EU passport. Will I still be able to get an NIE number with a UK job? I assume as I am an EU citizen that I will be able to get health cover in Spain?

Appreciate your replies!

Tim

You can work where you like, although I suggest you speak to someone experienced in tax regulations to find out how that's going to work. But, you don't have to live here to get an NIE (you can even get one now, without coming over) and as an EU citizen things will be relatively easy. Just keep quiet about that on here - you might be lynched hahahaha!

Good luck with it all, I'm sure you'll be very happy here.

You can only access the Spanish health system if you work in Spain.

Try emailing Katie at Breaking Spain for advice re NIE

Thanks, is this still the case as an EU passport holder? I read somewhere that EU citizens naturally qualify for Spanish National Health (or equivalent)?

Tim, you will pay more income tax in Spain.  You will pay your usual from the UK and then you will need to submit a second income tax report to the Hacienda (tax office) in Spain if you spend more than 183 days in Spain which it sounds like you plan to.  Expect to pay more!  Also, please note that if you are a tax paying resident in Spain you must complete a Form 720 reporting any assets over 50k euro.  Do not get caught non reporting these assets which could result in large fines. Check it out for yourself.

Residency will not be a problem but expect to need full comprehensive insurance.  The only way I can see you would plug into the Health system in Spain is by being employed by a Spanish company or being self employed.  I don't believe either is economically viable.  Better to go private.  (my opinion only and please confirm this with relevant authorities).

Other than that and a Spanish drivers license you should be good to go.
