Due to family constraints, I cannot be too definitive in this question. We have a family member who has stage 4 cancer. No real prognosis, except he has maybe 3-4 months left. He is living alone at home. Family are trying to fly out from UK in weekly batches to look after him, but needless to say there are two who are taking the brunt and others who due to financial/work/school committments cannot get out more than once every 3 or 4 months. As is normal in most families. Horrible situation as the patient needs 24hour nursing rather than family being at his bedside.

My question is, does anyone know if there are any organisations in the area that will provide the nursing care at home, and at what cost?  Will the SNS be able to provide palliative care for expats at home or in hodpital? He has residentia, I am unsure as yet of his medical insurance, so hopefully they might. Or is it best to look for hospice type care, if that exists in the town.

I really dont know the best questions to ask, but hopefully someone out there will be able to at least guide me to the right place to ask.

Cudeca (a Spanish cancer charity who also have hospices) are a really good starting point. Good luck at this awful time.

Though your friend has Spanish residency, if they are still getting UK pension, then your friend might be entitled to DWP payments. The patient or someone on their behalf will need to call the DWP and apply for PIP under special care when a person has a terminal illness. You will need to tell them that your friend is a UK citizen with terminal illness. I know that sounds blunt but if they are told straight away then your friend jumps to the front of que and do not have to wait weeks for finance. Instead it will be a 3 week wait to know of what payments will pay for home or hospice care. You also need to download a DS1500 form and get your friend's doctor, G.P, medical centre or hospital doctor to fill the form in. I hope this helps and your able to access the PIP terminal illness finance to provide your friend with the best care in the world, DWP PIP number is a UK call to 08009172222. God Bless, x

Chasing it up can be very stressful to start a claim and millions of questions but once it is done , then the DWP system will support you and your friend and ask no more questions, The palliative care can be for 6 months initially but will extend the care package and payments to 3 years. Bet your friend is so happy to have you as a friend (◍•ᴗ•◍)❤

Although I can't help with your question I hope things work out as best as they can for him.The family is in a very difficult situation but I hope the good advice on here makes things a tad more bearable,if that is at all possible.

My sincere wishes for a solution that makes his final months pass by with comfort and good care. Your family have pulled together in a difficult situation.

God bless   💙💙💙

Thank you all for your support. My son is out there now and will be following up all suggestions. His father in law is now bedbound, unable to move his left arm or leg, so any help coming from your care and suggestions is very welcome. Just flying out there will cost them around £1000 in covid tests, you would think that having to show hospital and GP records before flying, the cost would have been paid by the NHS. But sad time all round.

Glad to hear you are getting support. I heard on the news that Spain government has said there is no longer any need for PCR test. I know the Spain's prime minister said this on BBC news but on ground level I do not know if this is now put in place or that PCR test still needed.

God Bless 🙏 your friendship
