Please could those of you already living in Alhaurín el Grande provide some details on Private Medical Insurance. My Wife and I are planning to remove from the UK before Brexit  therefore we will need Medical cover. I’m 61 and my wife is a little younger!! So any help would be appreciated.

Hi Steve.  We moved to Spain last year and did lots of research into private medical insurance.  Ours is with DKV salud and costs €120 a month for the two of us.  We arranged it along with our residency with Expat Insure in Aroyo de la Miel (Bedelmadena)

thank you for you reply but without sounding daft would I need to speak to Expat Insure? if you wouldn't mind as we have your interest of which we appreciate and your knowledge and experience in your first year in Spain at hand...... (sorry), but what about recommendations for home content/building and car insurance also?

We are also considering Coin as a location to live.

Thank you

Kerri

Hi there,  Health Insurance is quite personal because it depends on your age and the plan details.  Probably recommended is comprehensive rather than co-pay.  When you first apply for residency you must have comprehensive anyway.  For car insurance Linea Directa is very good because they have competent English speakers.  I have not done alot of competitive research for car insurance because they have been so great that even if I pay a little more its worth it to me.

I actually found an Insurance Agent who set up a replacement Health Insurance (she saved me 30e per month with a plan that I could use the Health Clinic that I wanted - which is also something to check into) and Home Insurance. They can compare all the rates with your details and give you options.  Maybe that is a good starting point.

The other thing to be sure with Health Insurance is whether they have an English speaking customer service.   With my first Health Plan it was impossible to get past the "select this and select that" on the customer call line because it was all in Spanish.  In the end for me I found an Agent just made the entire process simpler.

ps ...It sounds like TeresaB used an Agent in Benalmedena. I can provide the lady I used if you want to talk to more than one.  Just private message me.
