On home insurance you will find Abbeygate very helpful and all speak English. https://www.abbeygateinsure.com/

Regarding Banking as you now have a Spanish address you can open a Euro account with N26 who are brilliant and very low cost, far better than local banks and can be up and running very quickly.  https:/...

.../n26.com/en-es/blog/local-iban-spain   You can top up very cheaply via Wise https://wise.com/

This is the sort of situation that is very worrying with these new online banks - N26 | An Update from N26 US — N26

I suppose we can 'assume' that would not happen as their business focus is Europe.  Still it leaves one feeling vulnerable if all your banking is with them.

As an optional bank seems like a good idea though.

Update:  I have checked the N26 and they will switch all direct debits in 10 minutes - No Charge.  --- For the same I pay Sabadell I can have their deluxe package which includes all sorts of insurance options.  I am going to meet with Sabadell in a week to see what they have to offer me before I make the switch.  Will keep this line updated with my progress for others.

They also pulled out of the UK.  N26 are a German bank I think but as you say, a bit worrying.

Yes I saw that as well about the UK being shut off.  And I have read reviews where they block your account.  Now there could be good reasons for that (security or whatever..) but if that were your only bank and you could only talk to someone on a chat ..........well enough said.

I might just sign up for the free account for awhile and see how it goes before finalizing everything with them.

Indeed, probably a good idea as it gives you your current bank to fall back on.  My lawyer recommended CaixaBank to me but they have been very difficult to deal with and twice I got to the sign up point before being told different reasons why I could not, which led me towards N26 aand a previous member suggested Santander.

Hi David,

With N26 can you setup all the direct debits necessary as a resident in Spain?  I am looking to see if switching from Sabadell to N26 would sink me somewhere or other that I cannot see at this point?  Currently paying 120 euro per year with Sabadell basic account including a credit card...

....

I do not wish to just read the 'marketing' of an online bank and then find myself stewing because of some small detail I failed to know about.  Cannot see the point of having more than one bank in Spain so switching 100% is the only option, or staying with Sabadell of course.

Lots of chatter on Facebook that other banks are preferable to Sabadell but their rates have suddenly shot up and some are now even more expensive than what I am paying Sabadell.  Sometimes, as they say 'better the devil you know' because Sabadell is a good banking system in my experience.

Thanks!

Yes N26 Euro account has a standard IBAN number, mine was set up very quickly over a year ago, my card came in 24 hours via DHL, I paid a small fee for that. I can't fault them, amazing app and good service.

Note also based in Spain. They shut down in UK after us leaving the 'Single Market', N26 Bank GmbH, Sucursal en España

N26 Bank GmbH, Sucursal en España is the Spanish establishment of N26 Bank GmbH and is registered at the commercial registry Madrid under section 8, No. 675425 and establishment address of Paseo de la Castellana 43, 28046, Madrid, Spain.

Although I lived her once before and have owned a property in Spain for 23 years, since back, now 16 months, from the end of withdrawal agreement, thanks to N26, I have not been in a bank. .

Good work, I think most of us would avoid actually going into a bank if we could.

Hi Andrew

Thanks for your reply.  I have been emailing customer services at N26 and they have confirmed if I apply for the account while I am actually located in Spain even though I am a UK resident, then it will be fine.  Like you,  I saw they had withdrawn from the UK but we can still have...

... a Spanish account under these circumstances.

My only other query with them was the Spanish application requires a number beginning with 6, so Spanish.  However, N26 confirmed I will be able to use my UK number at that point which I am not convinced about, worst way I will have to buy a Spanish pay-as-you-go sim.

We also love Antequera and the people.  We previously had a place near Marbella for 12 years and did not want to go back to the same area, even though it was perfect for us at the time.

I will post here what happens with N26.

Cheers
Andy

I have just tried to put in an English mobile number and it wouldn't accept it, so maybe I will email them as you said an English number could be used. Hence I cannot move forward in opening an account.
