Looking to buy a townhouse in Alhurin at the end of this year and would like advice please on safety in the area, basically are there any places to avoid here when looking to buy? This would be a permanent home so I would need to know I was in the right area.

I would also like to get to grips with expected costs, monthly charges for electric, gas, phone, Wifi, water bills for a three bedroomed townhouse. House insurance too if anyone knows.

And are there Spanish lessons anywhere once there?

I have  more questions to ask but won't barrage you with them now, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks Maureen

My daughter has lived in alhaurin de la torre for about 3 years.

It's great location for the beaches, malaga and the airport.

The beach restaurants are so cheap on Los Alamos playa.

It appears to be improving all the time, if you like tapas, in the town centre the bars don't look much but the food is wonderful.

It has a mercadona and Aldi.

If your buying a property just watch out for any small print, leasehold/freehold etc, but your solicitor should take care of that side.

Good luck.

Please may be looking to rent for three months this year in Costa del sol. A try before you buy while looking around . May be interested in area 30mins from Malaga airport. Does anyone have any views on the corrupt policy spain has on bulldozing property's/ charging extra stamp duty( tax/vat)!even years after buying. This is putting us off . Thankyoun

Hi Maureen

I live in Coín but it's only 10 mins from alhaurin so I can give you a rough idea in prices for utilities.

I use a gas bottle for my hot water. Electricity is quite expensive in Spain so I try to cut down costs. We had an electric hot water thermos that was always keeping the water hot so I replaced it with a gas boiler which was about 250 euros. Everything else here runs on electricity, so that's heating, fridge freezer, pool pump, water pump. It comes to about 125 per month. Although I haven't had a bill since changing the boiler yet.

Gas bottles cost 16 euros and last about 2-3 weeks and you can get them at most garages.

For my phone and internet I use mooby, a company in la Trocha, which if you don't know it, it's a small shopping mall, with cinema gym etc. About 15 mins from alhaurin. You can get cheaper packages but I pay 39 euros a month and that includes a landline and a mobile phone I think 100 mins free. The internet speed is ok, I can watch Netflix no probs.

There is an English guy who fits the system who does a box with uk basic channels, for 150 euros and no monthly fee.

I have irrigation and town water. The irrigation is 70 euros a year and town water varies. Last bill was 50 euros for 3 months.

You also pay rubbish fees 15 a month.

Ok hope that helps, it's a bit daunting moving so I hope that helps.

If you need any more info please inbox me, many thanks Claire
