No worries Sandra and good luck ... it’s not a good place to be really but we have no choice so we just have to wait.

Our Solicitor is lining everything up for the Green Card residency for us - bank account, medical insurance, NIEs, Forms everything so it should, hopefully be a simple matter once we get there....

...

We have two dogs we are bringing with us and I don’t want to move them by air, crated in the hold they would panic - so we are driving down through France and Northern Spain - we will try to book out of the way gites as stop overs for social distancing and carry all our own food so we don’t need to shop - not how we’d dreamed hey !!  ..... So much for a leisurely holiday drive down.

Good Luck and all the best for a wonderful new life xxx

Hi Julie

I have been reading your messages and replies from others, with great interest.

I myself have had a longing to live in Spain for the past 15 years and only just put my house on the market this year.  It sold in February then Corona hit us.  My plans have been put on hold, I had a viewing trip cancelled 31st March, flights etc cancelled and now I am thinking of mid-July to drive, like yourselves, from Calais (I have a dog) into Spain.  I am single and 60  and this was meant to be my last adventure doing something I have wanted for a long time alone.

I have been communicating with the agents in Spain to get a nice rental in a village in inland Spain (Comares , Competa  or Torrox inland) first then see about buying after a year or so.

Can you tell me is your Solicitor in Spain  could you recommend him to me?  I have a pet passport, was going to get the NEI Number from the agent I was going to use for house rental but, I do not have a residential card that you mentioned.  I am worried about so much at the moment.  Especially, like yourselves, being homeless in mid-July when my buyer wants me to move.

I thought I could get a Solicitor when I got to Spain but the Corona Virus has changed everything, obviously, for everyone, so a recommendation would be a great help.

You yourselves must be so worried having to leave the UK very soon, was it May 26th?

Have you booked the Channel Tunnel?  I was glad when I heard Boris's announcement including France in the movement into the UK and that their cases in France have dropped.  This must hopefully make the trip more achievable from UK into France and hopefully Spain?

Sorry about the long message, I wish you all the luck and perhaps I can keep in touch with you.

Kindest regards

Debra Kingston

Hi Debra,

How wonderful to hear from you, and what a shame it is for both of us that a long held dream has been so badly affected by the virus.

Our house in the UK finalised on 26th May so just 9 days from now and our Spanish property in Alhaurin el Grande completes on 5th June.

We have been incredibly lucky with our buyers who have agreed to allow us to stay in the house until the beginning of July.

Our plan remains to try to travel on 7th July - we are hoping Spain open the borders sufficiently after 15th June to allow this.

Our Solicitor is in Alhaurin el Grande and his name is Francisco Gómez and I cannot recommend him highly enough he has been amazing with us and so helpful - be aware however that Spanish solicitors are incredibly expensive ..... purchase only conveyancing would be circa £1,000 in UK in Spain the same thing is nearer £3,000.

Good Luck with your journey and your adventure and I really hope when we are both all settled in Spain we will look back in this as a bump in the road rather than the towering problem it seems at the moment.

Kindest - Julie xxxxx

Hi Julie and Debra

As I said earlier, I plan to move on 21st July. I didn't know it was possible to fly to France then drive through. I may be being stupid but if you can do this, why cant you fly? Also, will they let you into Spain? I thought Police were driving around asking people where they were going etc. This sounds like a glimmer of hope for me if they don't fly on 21 Spain. Any help or advice will be greatly received.

Thank you Julie for your recommendations and your advice and comments.  You have been lucky that your buyer has extended your stay in your house in the UK, mine wants asap! Hahah!

My intention is to rent first in Spain, look around for a property, then buy when I find something suitable, so a little different from yourselves.

Perhaps you can keep in touch and let me know how it goes with your journey to Spain.

Yes, let's hope this is all behind us soon.

Kind regards

Hi Hollyrosa23

Thank you for that, that is very helpful. I am going to go for residential at some point but was going to wait until I was actually living there. However, its good to know that, if need be, I can do it from here. I am in the same situation as you, my lawyer has POA.

We have a bungalow in Villanueva del Trabuco and I can't wait to get there! You will have to let me know how it all goes.

Take care

Sandra

Hi Sandra

My plans do not include flying to France, I had intended to drive, take the Channel tunnel to Calais then make my way to Spain, through France.  I have a dog and do not want to put him on any planes.

I am planning going mid to late July, say 20th, so I am hoping that in 8/9 weeks, moving around France and Spain will become more viable.  We have to wait and see.

Regards

Hi Debra,

Yes of course I would love to stay in touch and it will be wonderful when we are all in Spain and settled.

I am keeping my fingers crossed we can travel on 7th July if not we will have to wait but it’s terribly upsetting and difficult - I’m not one bit sure our buyers would tolerate a delay and we could find ourselves sofa surfing with relatives - with two dogs that’s far from ideal but let’s not cross bridges until we get there,

I hear Spain May open a couple of airports to control the flow of people into the country but this doesn’t help us as we must drive because if the dogs,

Good Luck - Julie xxxx

Hi Sandra,

You cannot currently get into Spain unless you are a Spanish National or hold a Green Card Residentia.  Even people who hold this status have to quarantine for 14 days on arrival.

Different regions are moving at different paces - Malaga region enter Stage 1 on Monday.  There will be a review of measures on 15th June when the borders may be further relaxed but there is no guarantees - until the borders open we are all a little stuck and having to manage our moves.

Good Luck to you and I really hope you get to travel soon.

Hi Julie

I just had a chat with an agent in Spain and she has told me the rules and restrictions relating to travellers are, all being well, being relaxed after 14th June.  This will allow people that have houses to go to, to be able to travel in Spain.

This sounds very good news for you.
