Hi, my husband & I are very seriously contemplating moving over to the Costa del sol. It is something we have been thinking of for a lot of years now. But where to buy? We have been on numerous holidays & have stayed in different areas. We went to look last year at AEG. Was lovely, we then drove to Salobrenas, which wasn't for us. At the moment I am looking at Saralonga area or Competa. The roads to Competa are a little scary, from what I have read. We are hoping to come over in the next couple of months & have another good look. If anyone has any advice it would certainly be a great help.

Hi, what kind of area are you looking for ? Bust , quiet ? Urbanisation or campo house. Can you be more specific with what you want ?

Hi, Area : Not in an urbanisation, villa private with pool, garages & preferably sea view & quiet. Although I know this limits where we would like to be. On the outskirts of a village would be lovely. But not stuck in the middle of nowhere. We are pretty much open minded of area. No more than an hour from Malaga airport. I'm sorry if this is sounds totally confusing!! There is an awful lot to think about. A total move I'm guessing will be a fraught experience!!! Thank you for your interest.

Hi there , we rented in a village about an hour from Malaga for the first year and then we decided to buy. If you give me your email address I can tell you about our experience. Trying to type here on the phone is very annoying! Cheers

Hi, we have had the same dream as yourselves in the last 3 years and we now live happily on the outskirts of AEG.

We live in the campo but only 3km north of the lovely Alhaurin. It’s either a very short car ride, longish walk or our preference is a bike ride into town.

We have visits from family who have a 2.5hour flight and we pick them up at the airport that’s only 30mins drive away. What could be better!

Alhaurin, we feel has the right balance of Brits to Spanish (5-10%), good for making you pick up the language!

There are loads of pluses about living in Spain, a few annoyances but as yet no pitfalls. Our total move was smooth as because we picked an excellent estate agent and recommended Solicitor.

If you need any more detail or advice, then just ask or email.

Good luck

Paul and Sue.

We have been renting a lovely casa between Torrox Costa and torrox Pueblo, very near both perfect, but if you want to buy, do talk to Jose at immobiliare el faro torrox, and maybe he will show you around, a lovely man, with some nice properties for sale and rent, maybe rent for a bit, to get a feel of the area. Compete is nice, but way up, and not much to see when you get there!! Nerja nice for a day, but v. Touristy.Just reply if there is anything else you want to know. Lots going on round here.

Thank you all for your replies, it is a lovely thought that we can ask advice on the forum. We are ( at the moment looking at Saralonga area or land to build). This obviously could change!!!!  Does anyone have any experience of Saralonga area? Love reading all the posts. Lot's of  really helpful advice on the forum.  Thank you all

Rebecca

Definitely rent before you buy.
