Hi everyone.

My name is Nicky and I am retired and I'm looking for a long term rental in             Fuengirola I am coming over to view properties on my own next month and would welcome any advice/comments. I am learning Spanish (very slowly) and want to see what it's like living here full time before making a permanent commitment.

Many thanks

Nicky

Hi Nicky.  Most people speak English and are happy to help with your Spanish.  There are a lot of expats here in Fuengirola.  The best advice I can give is not to take the first thing you see, but don’t take too long to think about it.  Good luck.

Hi yes that is good advice. Should I ask a solicitor to check the rental agreement...or are agencies regulated.

Hi Nicky.  Lawyers are expensive but, do ask for the contract to be in English and read it thoroughly before you sign it.  Make sure the agency gives you a receipt for any monies paid to them.

Check on residency requirements. With Brexit there are changes afoot.  You wouldn't want to sign a lease for a year and then find out that your residency didn't cover you to stay in Spain.  So I would recommend residency first and property rental next.  Good luck!

Hi Nicky,

We are originally from England and own a new apartment in Fuengirola that we would like to rent.

How long do you want to rent for? The residency should not be a problem if you can show pension income and health insurance.

Good luck,

Navin Joshi

But rental contract is needed for residency first so  how is he going to do that? 🤔

Rental contract is not an issue for residency. You need three things:  Passport, proof of Income and medical insurance.

Hi Nicky

Within the last year people have had to prove they have an address in the area as well as NIE number, medical insurance and income.

Good luck
