My partner and myself are seriously thinking about moving to the outskirts of Competa or Torrox with our two dogs. We will be coming out to look at places next month. We would like to know if there are any groups we can join in Competa and what sort of activities they are into. Also how easy is it to get to a beach from Competa? Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Corrine,

We have a house in Cómpeta and there are many groups and the socialising side is very easy to get into.    We’re a very friendly bunch!   There are gardening, crafts, writing, yoga, walking groups and much more.    However, Torrox is nearer the beach.   It takes about 40 minutes to get to the beach from Cómpeta.  Hope that helps.

Hi Chris,

Thank you for your email.  We have seen many interesting properties online in Competa, Torrox and El Morche.  How does Competa compare with Torrox?  I know that Torrox is a much larger town and you have told me that it is closer to the sea.  What we are looking for is a secluded place (not isolated) close enough to the town/village to be able to integrate socially and also a drive away from the beach where we might be able to go maybe once a week or so.  We would not like to live in the village core mainly because we have two dogs and the countryside appeals more to us.  However, we are both very sociable....I am Maltese and my partner is Irish.....and we are looking forward to starting our new life in Spain.

Hi Corrine,

I’m biased because I love Cómpeta and we have friends who live on the outskirts of the village in the campo.  Cómpeta is a very friendly and welcoming Spanish village and it’s not too big.    I don’t know much about Torrox apart from visiting for a meal or a coffee.   Have you considered renting in the campo before buying?    Hope that helps.

Hi Chris,

I don't know what a campo is!  We will be viewing 7 properties on the outskirts of Competa and we will be renting for the time being for 6 months up to a year.  After that we will decide whether to buy a property in Spain or not.  Neither of us has ever been to this part of Spain so we are unsure of what we will find.  Thank you so much for your help and response.  You are very helpful.

Hi Corrine

Sorry - the campo is the countryside outside the village!!!   We’re there on the 3rd Feb till middle of March so if you want to meet up, we’d love to buy you a beer 🍺.   You won’t regret it - life in Spain is fabulous.

Chris

Hi corrine

I have a house in algarrobo pueblo it is the village that you go through to get to competa it is only 5 mins by car to the coast or  a 30 min walk it is a lovely friendly village and house prices are cheaper than competa it’s worth a look

All the best in your search and hope you find somewhere

Hi Corinne

thanks for your email.  I attach a link below to idealista which has all the properties for sale in Algarrobo and will give you an idea of what’s on offer and the price etc.  I also attach a link to a video which was commissioned for the tourist board (I think).  In terms of Competa, it’s lovely and there seems to be a lot going on but the thing that put us off was the road up - it’s ok in daylight but I wouldn’t like to drive up on a regular basis on an evening when it’s dark buts that’s our personal opinion.

Hope this is helpful - Billy and Majella
