Hi Everyone

We moved to Spain 6 weeks ago, and I do love Spain very much, these last few days I have been getting upset, thinking about the home we had in England and mostly missing my son, went to bed then I had get up because I was  thinking about him, I want to give him a hug and see his lovely face, I keep wondering if I have done the right thing, he has a partner and they are happy so I thought I would be fine moving to Spain, if anyone reads this and feels the same or help me to feel better I would love to hear from you, havent made any friends yet, mainly because we havent been here for long/

Kind regards

Hi Jeni

Its natural to feel that way....... as you say you do love it here, best thing is to try to keep busy get out and about.... join Spanish classes see if there is an International club near you, if you think you would like it??     Have you internet with a skype connection?  We speak to some of our family that way and with the camera it is just like being in the room - or perhaps you have this  already and its not enough!  Hopefully he will come to see you and of course you can always book a weekend back now and then... A blast of good old miserable English weather should do the trick!

I don't usually reply to forum posts etc., but I hope this helps?!

Best wishes

Sue B

Hi Sue B

Thank you for your most welcome reply, feeling quite isolated, and suffering with the heat, I am living on the La Posada mobile home park,in Alameda, I have met some nice people, everyone says hello.  There is an Hotel at the rear of the park, and on Friday, and Saturday they had parties  with very loud music, outside the hotel and both nights it went on until 7.30am so had no sleep all weekend.

At the moment I feel like I want to get on a plane and spend some time in the uk, however I have a little dog, and it was quite stressful for her being in the hold on her own coming out,and she had never flown before, she hasnt been the little happy dog she used to be, she pants all the time and seems to find it hard to find some comfort, I have had air conditioning put in the lounge and bedroom for her, seeing her distressed distresses me.  She has also had a lot of problems with dry eyes, and the vet sent us to the SOS animal hospital last week and we have to go again with her this Friday.

Sorry for moaning I am not usually like this, and I keep crying and I do not know why.

Once again thank you Sue for taking the time to reply it is very much appreciated.

KInd regards

Jeni

Hi Jeni,

I've only just joined this forum and read your message. I too felt like you when I moved Spain in February this year. But I have made some nice friends now. I also live on Posada lol maybe we could meet up for a cuppa?

Regards,

Tracey

Hi Tracy

Thanks for replying, We have now returned to England and we are so glad we did, we have a lovely brand new house, which we love very much.  The heat just got to much for us and our little dog Milly, she is also happy here, no more panting not knowing what to do with her self, she was getting lots of ticks out there, what horrid things they are never seen them before yuk, also I was allergic to mossie bites and they became blistered it took two weeks of ice compresses, could not sleep even had to have them on all night just to get some rest.  When it reached 50 degree that was to much for us.

I am really glad you have made some nice friends, I had a very good friend at Saydo who was brilliant, she has been there many years and manages the park, her name is Jenny, if you ever go to Saydo on market day (Wednesday) look her up she is the most lovely of people, and say hello for me, market day there is really good there is a stall that sells lovely plants, and they are very helpful.  I did really try and never thought I would come back, we sold our bungalow and give all our furniture to charity, and sold both our cars, we spent over £3,000 modernizing  our mobile home, it was beautiful, someone as bought it now and I am sure they will be happy there.

Its just not for us, when we booked the international removers and we said we where going back to the UK, he said you are not alone. I did love the countryside and mountains they where stunning never got tired of seeing them going to Malaga, which we did quite often to Ikea and Leroy Merlin, also shopping, there is a shopping centre near Ikea, cannot remember at moment what it is called, there is a shop there that sells the most beautiful homeware bought quite a few items from there and brought them back with me.  I think I am just too English, as I dont like to much sun, and heat, not that much heat.  Have you met Cath who is the interpreter, she is brilliant and a lovely lady, we liked her very much, when she used to come to see us it was like having a lovely friend, coming, if you see her please say Jeni and Brian say hello and are happy to back in the UK.

Well Tracy I think you will be fine, and probably settle there, I wish you every happiness for the future, and if you want to write to me that would be lovely.

Kind regards

Jeni xx

Hi Jeni.

Yes I'm the same, been here two and half years permanently and still don't fit in as I miss UK and my two daughters.

I have made lovely friends but still not the same feel very lonely sometimes, think there is quiet a few like us, I'm from Fuete Dr Piedra.me and my partner seem to argue constantly and I end up crying alone, were making each others lifes a misery since we moved here permemntly.

My partner wants to stay here I want to go back to UK but we sold everything to buy out here so I've got nothing to go back to, please any advice will be welcome .

Hi jeni,

I feel your pain. We arrived on the 7th November And absolutely loved it. We went home for Xmas and couldn’t wait to come back. However since we came back I’m really home sick. I have 3 boys and I ache for them everyday even though they are in their 20s and really not bothered. Lol

We made friends who have welcomed us here which we are very grateful. I think it depends where you live and what the expat community is like.

We have had lots of visitors already and hopefully we are going to stick it out and hope you do too.

You are welcome to PM if you would like to chat more.

Good luck x
